Publication Ethics Statement

Scolae: Journal of Pedagogy is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against publication malpractice. This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher.

A. Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to Scolae: Journal of Pedagogy must ensure that:

  1. Originality and Plagiarism
    Manuscripts must be original works. Any use of others’ work, ideas, or words must be properly cited. Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable.
  2. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
    Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously or publish redundant content.
  3. Authorship and Contribution
    All listed authors must have made significant contributions to the research and writing process. Individuals who contributed but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged.
  4. Data Integrity and Reporting Standards
    Authors must present accurate data and provide sufficient detail to allow replication. Fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data is unethical.
  5. Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest
    Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript.
  6. Ethical Clearance
    Research involving human participants must include evidence of ethical approval and informed consent where applicable.
  7. Corrections and Retractions
    Authors must promptly notify the editor if a significant error is discovered in their published work and cooperate in correcting or retracting the paper.

B. Ethical Responsibilities of Editors

Editors of Scolae: Journal of Pedagogy are responsible for:

  1. Publication Decisions
    Editors have full responsibility and authority to accept or reject manuscripts based on scholarly merit, originality, and relevance to the journal scope.
  2. Fair Play
    Manuscripts are evaluated solely on academic content without discrimination based on authors’ race, gender, affiliation, or political beliefs.
  3. Confidentiality
    Editors must ensure that all submitted manuscripts are treated as confidential documents.
  4. Conflict of Interest
    Editors must not handle manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.
  5. Handling Ethical Issues
    Editors must take appropriate action when ethical concerns arise, including investigation, correction, or retraction if necessary.

C. Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers contribute to maintaining the quality of publications and must:

  1. Confidentiality
    Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.
  2. Objectivity
    Reviews should be conducted objectively, with clear arguments supporting recommendations.
  3. Acknowledgment of Sources
    Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors.
  4. Conflict of Interest
    Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist.
  5. Timeliness
    Reviewers should complete reviews within the agreed timeframe.

D. Ethical Responsibilities of the Publisher

The publisher of Scolae: Journal of Pedagogy is committed to:

  1. Integrity of Academic Record
    Ensuring that editorial decisions are independent and free from commercial influence.
  2. Support for Ethical Practices
    Assisting editors in handling ethical issues and maintaining the integrity of the publication process.
  3. Access and Archiving
    Ensuring long-term availability and preservation of published content.

E. Handling of Misconduct

In cases of suspected misconduct, including plagiarism, data fabrication, or unethical research practices, the journal will follow established procedures:

  • Initial assessment by the editorial team
  • Communication with authors for clarification
  • Investigation based on available evidence
  • Issuance of correction, retraction, or rejection as appropriate

F. Plagiarism Screening

All manuscripts submitted to Scolae: Journal of Pedagogy will be screened using plagiarism detection tools. Manuscripts with significant similarity will be rejected or returned to authors for revision.

Authors are also encouraged to independently check their manuscripts using reliable plagiarism detection software prior to submission. As supporting documentation, authors may upload a plagiarism report indicating a similarity index of below 25% during the submission process. However, the final assessment of similarity and its acceptability remains under the authority of the editorial team, considering both the percentage and the nature of the similarity.

G. Ethical Oversight

The journal adheres to internationally recognized ethical guidelines and encourages all stakeholders to follow best practices in scholarly publishing.
